Dear
Student,
Thank you
for your interest in being a participant
in the Karate classes I am offering. This
program will guide you toward greater
self-discipline and confidence as your
flexibility, balance, and overall
coordination improve. The program
gradually guides the participant to
improved fitness and better knowledge of
self defense. It is a fun way to get in
shape and stay in shape.
Your
Health
Before
beginning any exercise program, an
individual should consult with his or her
physician. Upon enrollment, you are
required to represent that you are in good
health and physically fit to take the
prescribed course of instruction. During
the course of enrollment, you are required
to inform your instructor of any change in
your physical health that would affect
your training.
Principals
of Practice (Student
Creed)
Learn this
as soon as possible, this pledge stresses
the philosophies and disciplines of this
class.
Exercise
We recommend
that moderate exercise be initiated upon
enrollment, including brisk walks, gentle
stretching exercises, calisthenics, and
practice of your martial arts
techniques.
Nutrition
This is the
key to increasing energy and stamina. As a
rule, it is best to stay away from too
much junk food, e.g. cakes, candy bars,
soft drinks, etc. It is usually a good
idea to eat high energy foods, e.g.
fruits, vegetables, pasta and always drink
plenty of water to replace what you burn
off during exercise.
Meditation
Meditation
is an important part of present and future
learning. In the Orient, Karate practice
is considered to be a form of active
meditation. Before attending class, a
student should try to clear his or her
mind of all disharmony, confusion, stress,
and anxiety. Replacing these thoughts with
feelings of calmness, fellowship, peace,
and strength will aid the student in
achieving the goals that are important to
him/her.
